Packing services
Packing is the part of a move people underestimate most. A three-bedroom house is usually two full days of work, and it is the difference between a move that runs to time and one that does not. There are three ways to do it and none of them is wrong.

Who it suits
What this covers
Full packing
We pack everything, room by room, the day before. You wake up on moving day with nothing left to do. Most useful when you are working, moving with young children, or short of time.
Fragile items only
Glass, china, mirrors, pictures, televisions and anything with a screen. You do the books and the clothes, we do the things that break. This is the most common choice.
Materials only
Boxes, tape, paper and covers delivered in advance so you can pack at your own pace. Cheapest, and fine if you have the time.
Included
What you get
- Boxes sized for what goes in them — small for books, large for bedding
- Wrapping paper, bubble wrap, tape and markers
- Wardrobe cartons so hanging clothes travel on the rail
- Mattress and sofa covers
- Room-by-room labelling so boxes are unloaded where they belong
- Unpacking at the other end, if you want it
What we do not do
Worth knowing before you book, rather than after.
- We will not pack hazardous items — paint, gas bottles, fuel, fireworks. Insurance does not cover them and neither do we.
- Plants and perishables travel at your own risk and are better moved in your own car.
In practice
Things worth knowing
The parts that make a difference on the day, from doing the job rather than describing it.
Pack the last room first
Whatever you use daily should be the last thing boxed and the first thing opened. An "open me first" box with the kettle, mugs, chargers, toilet roll and a change of clothes saves an evening of searching.
Books are heavier than they look
A large box of books is often too heavy to carry safely and will burst at the bottom. Small boxes for anything dense. It feels wasteful and it is not.
Label the side, not the top
Once boxes are stacked you cannot read the top of any of them.
Televisions and screens
The original box is ideal. Failing that a purpose-made screen carton — a screen packed flat under other items is the single most common breakage.

What customers say
From people we have done this for
I used TransScot in both January and Feb this year. Both times, the service and respect for both me and my precious possessions were incredible. The efficiency and professional standards of a huge company, with the thoughtfulness and consideration of a small business - I would highly recommend them to everyone. I was in quite a vulnerable position, on my own, and timing was imperative - the reassurance and respect I was shown (and kindness to my 87-year-old mum) was amazing. They just make you have faith in humanity again.
George and his amazing team! From the first telephone call to the last box unpacked George and his team had the highest customer service ethic. His team went over and above for my elderly stepfathers move, any request was dealt with in a timely efficient friendly manner. Please do not hesitate to utilise this professional team. Thank you all so much.
Questions
Asked most often
How long does packing take?
Roughly a day for a two-bedroom home and two for a larger house, with a crew. On your own, allow considerably more — most people find it takes two or three evenings per room.
Do I have to be there?
For full packing it helps to be in for the first hour to say what matters, then it is not necessary. For fragile-only packing you will want to point out anything with sentimental value.
What happens to the empty boxes afterwards?
We collect them once you have unpacked, at a time that suits. They get reused.
Is packing included in the quote?
Only if you ask for it. It is priced as a separate line so you can see exactly what it costs and decide.
