The thirties semi, inside
The classic Clarkston staircase is narrower than the rooms it serves, with a winder at the bottom and a cupboard over it. King beds and large wardrobes usually go up in pieces — routine work, but it belongs in the plan. Doorways are narrower than modern ones too, which surprises people bringing new oversized sofas.
Bungalows, and what their lofts hide
Netherlee and Stamperland have streets of bungalows, and bungalow lofts are where a household’s second half lives. A one-storey house with a full loft is a bigger move than it looks — say so at survey and the quote will be right first time.
Driveways and school-run streets
Most houses take a van on or beside the drive. The catch is timing: these are school-catchment streets, and a 9am start beside a primary school gate is slower than the same start at 9.45. We plan the day around it.
The two-ended southside job
A close in Shawlands at one end, a semi in Williamwood at the other: the commonest shape of work here. The tenement end sets the difficulty and the price; the Clarkston end is usually the reward.
Busby, Eaglesham and the edge
Beyond Busby the streets turn villagey — older cottages, tighter corners, and at Eaglesham a conservation village where big vehicles and narrow frontages need a smaller van and a plan.
