Long-distance removals

A move from Lanarkshire to London is not a local move with more mileage on it. The loading has to be right first time, the day is longer, and there is usually a decision to make about whether it happens over one day or two. Those are the things worth getting settled before anything is booked.

Who it suits

What this covers

Moving out of Scotland

Households relocating from Glasgow, Lanarkshire or Central Scotland to England, Wales or elsewhere in the UK. The collection end is local to us, which usually means an early start and a full day of useful driving.

Moving into Scotland

Coming the other way. These need a little more planning at the far end, because the survey is normally done over video rather than in person.

Job relocations

Where the date is set by an employer rather than by a chain, and is often less flexible than a normal move.

Business relocations

Offices and premises moving between cities, planned around trading rather than around distance.

Included

What you get

  • A survey before quoting — video is normal for a long-distance move
  • One crew for the whole job, loading and unloading
  • Furniture blanketed and strapped for a long run, not just for across town
  • Dismantling and reassembly at both ends
  • Packing, if you want it — worth more on a long move than a short one
  • Storage at either end if the dates do not meet
  • Goods in transit and public liability cover for the whole journey

What we do not do

Worth knowing before you book, rather than after.

  • We do not move overseas. A UK move is a UK move; anything crossing a border needs a specialist and we will say so rather than take it on.
  • We do not part-load your belongings with another household without telling you. If sharing a load is on the table it will be in the quote, priced accordingly.

In practice

Things worth knowing

The parts that make a difference on the day, from doing the job rather than describing it.

One day or two

Driving time is the constraint. Beyond a certain distance, loading, driving and unloading will not fit into one legal working day, so the load travels overnight and is delivered the following morning. That is normal and it is safer than trying to do it all at once — but it changes what you need with you, and it is decided at survey rather than on the day.

Access at the far end matters more, not less

On a local move a parking problem costs half an hour. On a long-distance move it can cost a delivery slot. We ask about the destination in as much detail as the collection, and a video walk-through of the new place is worth doing if you have access to it.

Take the essentials in your own car

Documents, medication, chargers, a change of clothes and anything you cannot replace. That is true of any move and it is more true when the van is arriving tomorrow rather than in two hours.

Packing pays for itself over distance

The load is on the road for hours rather than minutes. Properly packed boxes hold their shape and stack safely; half-full ones do not. This is the move where fragile-only packing is worth considering even if you would not normally bother.

What customers say

From people we have done this for

  • A truly exceptional end to end service 😁. George and his team were excellent throughout the removal and delivery 🚚 of my good and chattels, nothing was too much trouble. I also had major delays (over 6 months) in completing my new house purchase. George with absolutely no complaints continued to store all property securely and safely. A truly excellent end to end service 😁

  • I can't recommend Leda and her team enough to anyone who is looking to move! The team removed my items quickly and efficiently, it was then stored and delivered the other end of the country when I need it to be. The quote was very reasonable (and better than big brand companies)nd the communication throughout has been exceptional. My items have all been delivered safely.

Questions

Asked most often

Where do you move to?

Anywhere in mainland UK. We are based in Motherwell, so Scotland and the north of England are the shortest runs, but the length of the journey changes the planning rather than whether we will do it.

Will my belongings be moved onto another vehicle?

Not without it being agreed and set out in your quote. The default is one vehicle and one crew from the door you leave to the door you arrive at.

How far ahead should I book?

Earlier than a local move. A long-distance job takes a vehicle and a crew out of circulation for a day or two, so there is less room to fit one in at short notice.

Can you store things at the other end?

Yes, if the dates do not line up. It is worth raising at survey because it affects how the load is packed as well as where it goes.

Do you survey in person for a long-distance move?

Usually a video survey, which is quicker for you and just as accurate for volume. An in-person visit is still available for larger houses or where there is a lot of specialist furniture.
