We are based in Motherwell, in North Lanarkshire. We work across Glasgow, North and South Lanarkshire, and out to Falkirk, Paisley and Renfrewshire, Stirling, Kilmarnock and Ayr — and we do long-distance moves from Scotland to anywhere in mainland UK. There is no office in any of those other towns and we will not pretend otherwise; we travel to the work.

Yes. Every move is covered by goods-in-transit and public liability insurance. Our standard liability is up to £40 per item, which is the long-standing figure across the removals industry — and if that is not enough for what you are moving, tell us before we start and we will arrange cover at a higher figure and tell you what it costs. It is also worth checking your home contents policy, as many cover belongings in transit during a move.

There is no licence to hold: removals is not a licensed trade in the UK, and any firm implying otherwise is stretching it. What we are is TransScot Ltd, a company registered in Scotland, number SC641345, insured for goods in transit and public liability, operating our own vehicles and employing our own crews. Ask any remover for their company number and their insurance — those are the checkable facts.

On local moves it is our own crew and our own vans. On the occasional long-distance job we use a trusted partner firm, and where we do we tell you before you book rather than on the day. We stay responsible to you for the work either way.

Three to four weeks for a standard move. Longer for Fridays, month-ends and the May-to-September peak, which fill first. If your date is a month-end Friday, that is the busiest slot in the calendar and worth booking as soon as your date of entry is agreed.

No — that is the most common mistake in Scotland. Book provisionally as soon as the date of entry is agreed in principle, then confirm when missives conclude. Missives frequently conclude a week or two before the date, by which point every decent firm is booked for it.

We move the booking. Conveyancing slips constantly and we see it weekly, so we do not penalise you for your solicitor’s inbox. Tell us as early as you can and we will do what we can, though whether the new date is available depends on what else is booked.

Often, yes — delayed completions and tenancy problems are a normal part of this trade. It depends entirely on what is already in the diary, so it is worth asking rather than assuming.

Yes, subject to availability. Office moves are often done outside working hours specifically so the business loses as little time as possible.

Because two three-bedroom homes on the same street can differ by hours once the stair and the parking are counted, and a headline figure that ignores that is a figure that changes on the day. We would rather survey and give you one number that holds.

Ten minutes on your phone walking us through the rooms, the stair and the street outside. No stranger in your hallway, no half-day waiting in, and a fixed written quote back. For most moves it is all we need; for larger or more complicated jobs we may ask to come in person.

Volume first — how much there is, including the loft, the garage and the shed. Then access at both ends: floor, stairs, lift, and how close the van can park. Then packing, storage, specialist items and the date. Distance matters least of all on a local move, which surprises people.

Yes. We accept Klarna and Clearpay, where the provider settles with us and you pay them on their terms. We also take cash and bank transfer. We are not VAT registered, so no VAT is added and none appears on your invoice.

Yes, and we do regularly — Bothwell and the Stirling villas keep us in practice. Tell us at quote stage: an upright and a grand are different jobs, and the stair between it and the door decides the crew size.

All routine, all worth mentioning in advance. The pattern with every one of them is the same: heavy, awkward, and frequently assembled in the room they are standing in, which means they may need dismantling to leave it. That is carpentry rather than a crisis, but it is time, and time on moving day is money.

Almost always. In a tenement the constraint is not the door, it is the turn at the half-landing — and a sofa too long to pivot flat can usually go through on its end. Where that fails, doors come off hinges and go back on, and feet and arms unbolt. The items that genuinely beat us were built inside the room.

Yes — beds, wardrobes, desks, tables and flat-pack generally. It is part of the job rather than an extra discovered on the day, and it is one of the things we look for at survey.

Hazardous items such as gas bottles, fuel, paint, solvents and fireworks. Anything illegal. Pets and livestock. Perishable food and plants where the journey would spoil them, unless agreed in advance. And we would rather you carried cash, jewellery, passports and deeds yourself.

The crew arrives, walks the property with you, and protects floors and doorways at both ends. Packing if you have booked it, then loading in an order that makes the unload sensible. We travel, unload to the rooms you point at, reassemble what we dismantled, and walk round with you before we leave.

In Scotland, usually not first thing. Keys are released once your solicitor settles, commonly around midday or later. A crew that knows this loads in the morning so the van is ready to roll when the call comes — rather than sitting outside your new house at half nine.

You or someone who can make decisions on your behalf, at both ends. Somebody has to say which room the boxes go in, and answer the questions that always come up.

A typical two-bedroom flat to a house runs four to seven hours including the drive, depending on floor and packing. Access at the difficult end drives it more than anything else.

Defrost the freezer, fit the transit bolts to the washing machine if you still have them, and pack a first-night box — kettle, mugs, teabags, toilet roll, chargers, bedding — and keep it with you rather than in the van. Then check every room, cupboard, loft and outbuilding before we drive away.

Tell the crew before they leave if you can, and tell us in writing within seven days so we can look at it while the circumstances are clear. If you find something later that you could not reasonably have spotted on the day, tell us when you do. Our terms set out the detail, and none of it cuts short your statutory rights.

We establish that at survey rather than on the morning. In a controlled parking zone in Glasgow you may need a bay suspension, and the council wants at least nine full working days — closer to a fortnight with a weekend in the middle. Where the van genuinely cannot get close, we shuttle with a smaller vehicle and price it openly.

For a small office moved over a weekend, typically none in trading hours. The honest answer depends on your IT rather than on us — the furniture is usually in place well before the network is.

Yes. For commercial work that is normal rather than an exception. It is quoted separately from a weekday move so you can compare the two.

Yes — delivered in advance so your staff can pack their own desks, which is usually faster and less disruptive than us packing around people.

Roughly a day for a two-bedroom home and two for a larger house, with a crew. On your own, allow considerably more — most people find it takes two or three evenings per room.

For full packing it helps to be in for the first hour to say what matters, then it is not necessary. For fragile-only packing you will want to point out anything with sentimental value.

We collect them once you have unpacked, at a time that suits. They get reused.

Only if you ask for it. It is priced as a separate line so you can see exactly what it costs and decide.

It depends on volume and duration, and it is quoted alongside the move rather than separately, because the collection and redelivery are part of the same job.

Ask when you book. It depends on how the load is stored — arranging access is much easier if we know it may be needed before it goes in.

Cover applies while goods are in our care. The specifics are set out in your written quote — read that rather than relying on a summary here.

They often do. Tell us as early as you can and the redelivery is rescheduled.

On the time and the access rather than a flat rate. Tell us the two addresses, the floors and what is going, and you will get a figure rather than an hourly rate that turns into a surprise.

Sometimes, particularly in Lanarkshire where the vans are based. Call rather than emailing if the date is tight.

Always carry. A van with nobody to lift is not a service we offer.

Anything reusable goes to reuse where we can arrange it. The rest is sorted for recycling and what is left goes to licensed disposal. We do not fly-tip and we can tell you where things went.

Yes, with arrangements for keys and access agreed in advance. Common with estates and with landlords who are not local.

Yes — a single room, a loft or a garage is a normal job.

Anywhere in mainland UK. We are based in Motherwell, so Scotland and the north of England are the shortest runs, but the length of the journey changes the planning rather than whether we will do it.

Not without it being agreed and set out in your quote. The default is one vehicle and one crew from the door you leave to the door you arrive at.

Earlier than a local move. A long-distance job takes a vehicle and a crew out of circulation for a day or two, so there is less room to fit one in at short notice.

Yes, if the dates do not line up. It is worth raising at survey because it affects how the load is packed as well as where it goes.

Usually a video survey, which is quicker for you and just as accurate for volume. An in-person visit is still available for larger houses or where there is a lot of specialist furniture.

Yes — every district, plus the industrial estates and the surrounding villages. We are in Motherwell, roughly twenty minutes away.

Yes, and it is a significant part of the work in this town. Offices, industrial units and trade premises, usually planned around when you are closed.

Often, for the same volume — because access is generally easier. Off-street parking and level entry save real time compared with a tenement close and a suspended bay. The saving is in the hours, not in a different rate.

Two to three weeks is comfortable. Month-end Fridays go first. Commercial moves usually need longer because they are built around a specific weekend.

Not usually, but it is worth mentioning. It changes where the van can stop and how far things have to be carried, and both are priced in at survey rather than added afterwards.

A dismantled shed, yes. Greenhouses are rarely worth moving — the glass makes it slow and risky, and they seldom survive. We will give you an honest view at survey.

Often, in Lanarkshire. The vehicles are based fifteen minutes away, so there is more room to fit a local job in than there would be at the other end of the country. Phone rather than emailing if the date is tight.

Yes — both, and often on the same job. Clearing what you are not taking on the same day as the move saves a second visit and usually a second charge.

Yes, with keys and access arranged in advance. Common for estates and for landlords who are not local.

Hazardous waste — asbestos, chemicals, gas bottles, clinical waste. Those need a licensed specialist and we will say so rather than take them. We are also not a valuation service; if you think something is worth money, have it looked at before the clearance.

We cover it and have worked there for years. We are based in Motherwell, about twenty minutes away on the M80 and M876 — closer than much of the Glasgow work we do weekly. There is no Falkirk office and we are not going to invent one.

Yes. Early starts and weekend loading are normal for us here. Tell us the rota when you enquire and we will build the day around it.

Almost never — most streets take a large van without one. If you are moving from a controlled zone in Glasgow or Edinburgh, that end may need arranging, and we will tell you at survey.

Yes — it is routine in Bridge of Allan and Dunblane. Heavy Victorian pieces are dismantled where they are designed to come apart, blanket wrapped, and carried by enough people to do it safely.
