Removals in Stirling
The steepest, narrowest access we deal with anywhere — and the reason surveys matter here.
Stirling is two towns in one for a removals crew. There is the Old Town climbing towards the castle — steep, narrow, cobbled in places and full of listed buildings that cannot be altered to get a wardrobe out. And there is everything else: Victorian villas in Bridge of Allan, family estates at Causewayhead and Cambusbarron, and new building on the edges.
We cover Stirling, Bridge of Allan, Dunblane, Causewayhead, Cambusbarron, Bannockburn and the surrounding villages, from Motherwell about half an hour away on the M80.
Moving in Stirling
What is different here
The things that actually change how long a move takes, and therefore what it costs.
The Old Town is a specialist job
Steep gradients, narrow wynds, restricted vehicle access and stairs that were built for people rather than furniture. A large van often cannot get near the door, which means a shuttle with a smaller vehicle and a longer carry. It is entirely doable — it just has to be planned, and it cannot be planned from a phone call.
Listed buildings limit the options
In a modern house a difficult item can sometimes come out through a window. In a listed Old Town property it usually cannot, and nothing can be removed or altered to make space. That pushes the work back onto dismantling and technique.
Bridge of Allan and Dunblane
Large Victorian and Edwardian villas with generous rooms and heavy period furniture. Access is usually straightforward; the volume is not, and these are the moves most often under-quoted by firms working from a room count.
A university city rhythm
The university adds a September and June cycle of smaller moves. Those weeks fill early, as they do in every student town.
Access
Why we insist on a survey in Stirling
We survey everywhere, but Stirling is the town where quoting without one is most likely to be wrong.
A video survey is usually enough
Ten minutes on your phone walking us through the rooms, the stair and the street outside. That is normally all it takes to size the job properly.
We check the street, not just the property
Where the van can legally stop, how far the carry is, and whether the gradient rules out a tail lift. In the Old Town that answer changes street by street.
Shuttling, when it is needed
Where a Luton cannot get close, a smaller vehicle ferries to the main van. It adds time and we price it honestly rather than discovering it on the day.
Period furniture, properly handled
Heavy Victorian pieces from the villas need dismantling, blanket wrapping and the right number of people. Two is not always enough and we will say so.
A written quote that holds
Once we have surveyed, the figure is the figure. The whole point of looking first is that the price does not move afterwards.
What customers say
From customers we have moved
I used TransScot in both January and Feb this year. Both times, the service and respect for both me and my precious possessions were incredible. The efficiency and professional standards of a huge company, with the thoughtfulness and consideration of a small business - I would highly recommend them to everyone. I was in quite a vulnerable position, on my own, and timing was imperative - the reassurance and respect I was shown (and kindness to my 87-year-old mum) was amazing. They just make you have faith in humanity again.
George and his team did a fabulous job today in moving a sofa and chair from one location to another and they were total life savers in the end. What seemed like a straightforward move turned into a nightmare when the chair wouldnt fit through the front or back door. George worked tirelessley to find a solution even to the extent of taking the back door off (and one inside door too) getting the chair to where it was meant to go and the putting both doors back into place. I so appreciate the effort that they put in, their dedication and not to mention their reasonable price for what turned out to be a mad job. I highly recommend George and his team. Thank you :)
Questions
Asked most often about Stirling moves
Can you get a van up into the Old Town?
Sometimes, and sometimes not — it depends on the street. Where a large van cannot get close we shuttle with a smaller vehicle. We establish which at survey rather than on the morning.
Are you based in Stirling?
No. We are based in Motherwell, about half an hour away on the M80, and we travel to Stirling work. There is no Stirling office and we would rather say so.
Do you move large period furniture?
Yes — it is routine in Bridge of Allan and Dunblane. Heavy Victorian pieces are dismantled where they are designed to come apart, blanket wrapped, and carried by enough people to do it safely.
Do you cover Dunblane and Bridge of Allan?
Yes, along with Causewayhead, Cambusbarron, Bannockburn and the surrounding villages.
How much notice do you need?
Three to four weeks for a standard move, and longer for Fridays, month-ends and the summer. For an Old Town property, earlier is better because the survey shapes the crew size.
